Everything about Clontarf Queensland totally explained

Clontarf is a southwestern suburb of the Redcliffe Peninsula in Queensland, Australia. Its Local Government Area is the Moreton Bay Regional Council. It encompasses the localities of Clontarf Beach and Pelican Park. It is the largest suburb in the city by land area, and borders all suburbs in the city except for Redcliffe and Scarborough. Clontarf also shares a sea border with Brisbane City Council.

Attractions and features

Clontarf is connected to Brisbane City, across Bramble Bay, by the Houghton Highway which is a 2.7 km long causeway that provides access to the southern tip of Redcliffe City, greatly decreasing the travel time between Redcliffe and Brisbane. The Houghton Highway replaced the Hornibrook Bridge which is now used by pedestrians, cyclists and for recreational fishing.
During the past few decades, beach goers have not viewed Clontarf as a very enticing destination, due to its coast being polluted with human effluent and other pollution from Hays Inlet and the South Pine River respectively, opting to visit beaches in Redcliffe or Scarborough instead. The environmental situation has improved, however, and Clontarf Beach and Bell's Beach are two of the closest beaches to Brisbane City. Pelican Park is known for its kite flying conditions, and a local industry has built around the sport. On weekends, many kites can be seen flying above Clontarf from the Hornibrook Bridge. During May, the Redcliffe Kite Club, based in Clontarf holds a two day kite event called Kitefest.

Industry

Clontarf's west hosts the largest industrial area in Redcliffe city, and the area is a big source of employment for a city which still has high unemployment and many residents commuting to Brisbane daily for work. Many Redcliffe residents commute to Brisbane by car, as there's no train line into Redcliffe city.
Clontarf is host to two adjacent medium sized shopping centres, on the southern tip of the suburb. Most retail commerce in the suburb revolves around small business, however, and there are many stand alone corner stores and other small businesses still in existence.
Due to the beachside location of Clontarf, there's an emerging tourism industry in the suburb, and government funded urban and beach renewal projects are slowly transforming this suburb into a much more visitable location. However, Clontarf still remains a chiefly residential and industrial community, and hasn't managed to transform itself to the same level as its neighbours, Margate and Woody Point.

Education

Several educational institutions are located within Clontarf - Clontarf Beach State High School, which opened in 1964 and has over 1240 enrolled students; Clontarf Beach State School (1950) with approximately 350 students; and a private school, Grace Lutheran Primary School (1971) with approximately 430 students. Nearby Redcliffe contains the region's campus of the Brisbane North Institute of TAFE.

Public transport

Clontarf is served by several bus routes: Route 315, a limited-stops Monday-Friday service to Brisbane City; Route 693, an internal route within Redcliffe City, and Routes 690 and 695 to Sandgate railway station, an approximately 20 minute commute. All services are provided by Hornibrook Bus Lines.
